Pepmeyer Among Candidates For Ninth Judicial Court Vacancy

John PepmeyerCurrent Knox County State’s Attorney John Pepmeyer’s name has appeared among a list of six attorneys applying to fill two judge openings in the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court.

According to documents sent from the Illinois Supreme Court, Pepmeyer will join four other Galesburg area attorneys in the judicial screening process.

The Democratic Pepmeyer is currently serving his second term as state’s attorney. He has not announced a bid for re-election, in the upcoming 2016 race, which as of now will be against candidate Jeremy Karlin who has also stated affiliation as a Democrat. Pepmeyer could not be reached for comment to discuss either matter.

Documents also indicate that former Knox County Assistant Public Defender Anthony Vaupel will seek a judge opening. Vaupel, who resides in Dahinda, is the only non-Galesburg applicant.

Galesburg applicants include private attorneys Tracey Mergener, Patrick Egan, and Christopher Kanthak. Attorney Thomas Siegel, who also serves as public defender for Warren County has applied as well.

Supreme Court Justice Thomas Kilbride has called for public comment to assist with his decision of appointment. The appointees will take over vacancies left by Chief Judge James Stewart and Circuit Judge Steven Bordner.
