PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Peoria County is getting $3.2 million from the federal government to protect children and their families from lead poisoning.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Peoria County was one of more than 30 cities and counties in 16 states to share nearly $102 million in grant money to reduce the number of lead-poisoned children. Efforts also will be made to protect families living in homes with significant amounts of lead.
HUD officials say Peoria County will address lead hazards in dozens of homes and the county will collaborate with local city agencies, health departments and various federal agencies to put the grant to use.
