Fire Destroys Nearly Century-Old Bowling Alley in Chicago

CHICAGO (AP) — A three-alarm fire has destroyed a nearly century-old bowling alley on Chicago’s North Side.

The blaze broke out just before 1 a.m. Monday at Lincoln Square Lanes. No injuries were reported, but a mayday was called when crews briefly lost track of one firefighter.

More than 140 emergency personnel and 71 pieces of equipment were dispatched to fight the flames. Crews were able to get the fire under control by about 3 a.m., but they’re expected to stay on the scene for most of the day.

The historic building was gutted by the fire. A co-owner of Lincoln Square Lanes says his family spent about $1 million in 2012 to renovate the 97-year-old bowling alley.
