Galesburg Businesses Adding Happy Hour Drink Specials, Others Not

Galesburg-city-signThe statewide ban of happy hour drink specials was lifted and is making a return to Illinois, due to the Governor’s approved signature two months ago.

Governor Bruce Rauner signed the Culinary and Hospitality Modernization Act on July 15th, welcoming happy hour back into restaurants and bars after 20 plus years of exclusion.

Sully’s Irish Pub Manager Andy Rice says with the addition of happy hour specials, he expects the higher possibility of weekday customers to stop in after work hours when they re-include specials this month.

Rice tells WGIL, excessive drinking and drunk driving is a concern but to avoid these concerns his staff remains well trained.

“There is always a manager here that keeps an eye on that,” says Rice. “Anybody who is serving alcohol, they know that if somebody doesn’t look like they are able to drive or they are getting overly intoxicated then they can’t drink anymore.”

Rice says Sully’s Irish Pub does not have a specific date when the happy hour drink specials will return, but he expects them to return sometime in September.

Buffalo Wild Wings is a another business in town that will be adding the happy hour special starting today from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Others, like Cherry Street Restaurant and Bar will not take part in adding happy hour because of current specials in place.
