knox county courthouseA Galesburg man has plead guilty to aggravated identity theft.

33-year-old Adam B. Williamson was arrested back in May for stealing credit cards from his grandparents, who he was living with at the time.

Williamson used his grandparents’ credit cards to withdraw more than $20,000 dollars in cash from an ATM at Galesburg Cottage Hospital to purchase drugs.

After receiving a letter about the missing large balance, his grandparents reported the credit cards stolen.

Williamson told Galesburg police he used $5,000 to purchase heroine for his personal use and $15,000 to pay off a drug debt.

Judge Thomas Ewing sentenced Williamson to six months in jail this past Monday in addition to two years in drug court for stealing a large sum of money from his grandparents.

Charges of financial exploitation of elderly, unlawful use of credit card and theft of more than $10,000 have been dropped, in replace of his guilty plea.

Williamson is to pay over $23,000 in restitution and stay off his grandparents property.
