Former Knox County Public Defender Launches Judicial Campaign

Jim HarrellA campaign launch for one of two vacant judge positions has left a former Knox County Public Defender thinking that a run is the right move for him.

Private Attorney Jim Harrell announced earlier this week that he will be in the running for the 2016 election to fill a vacant position in the Ninth Judicial Circuit that was left by former Judge Steven Bordner.

Harrell tells WGIL, after consideration and discussion with his family, he thinks this is the right choice for him.

“I believe in my experience in the courtroom. My familiarity with the statutes, supreme court rules and courtroom procedure, as well as my experience over the last two decades would be very beneficial in trying to win one of these positions”.

Harrell says he can bring experience and a variety of qualities to the bench if elected.

“As opposed to someone else that walks in and says I think I want to run for this position. I’m the person with experience, knowledge, and the know how. I want to do the best I can for the citizens of the Ninth Circuit, including Knox County”.

There are two vacant positions six attorneys have already applied for in the Ninth Circuit.

Primary election will take place in March 2016 and general election will take place in November to fill out Bordner’s term.

Harrell could face one of those candidates in the upcoming election cycle.
