Art Thrives In Galesburg

artinburgArt from local artists have been showing up around parts of Galesburg.

Whether it be through statues, live music and open readings, or painted murals along business buildings and alleyways Galesburg is getting an artsy face lift.

Owner of Glory Days Barber Shop, Kyle Rohweder recently added a mural to the side of his business building, with the help of local artists and friends.

He tells WGIL, seeing all the local art displayed around town adds to the character of Galesburg and spread positive vibes through the town.

“I think doing things like that, it’s a great way for a lot of younger people as well as a lot of my own peers. Just to be able to focus on something fun, something creative, and something beautiful in its own weird and warped way. I believe we were designed to creative instead of destroying things”.

The mural on the side of the barber shop features the stylish interior of Glory Days, featuring a variety of colorful monsters forcing their way into the shop.

Rohweder is also added into the mural creation to fight off these colorful monsters.

He says he was able to see the beginning stages of the sketched proofs before it was painted on, but says he trusted the creativity and talent of his friends.
