McClure Street Garage a Total Loss After Fire

Mc Clure FireThe Galesburg Fire Department and Galesburg Police responded to 1057 Mc Clure street at approximately 7:17 p.m. to reports of a stand-alone garage that was on fire.GFD Fire Battalion Chief Brad Stevenson said the garage is a total loss, with the back half completely caved in. The house sustained no damage, but the residence next door had some melted siding and the tree behind the garage had scorch damage.

Stevenson said initially the trucks that first responded did not have enough water to put the fire out, so they focused on protecting the exposure, but once the big fire truck came in, the fire was out within minutes.

The garage was mostly used for storage and suspects that all the items are a total loss as well.

The neighbor called in the fire and reported a loud boom sound, but Stevenson says they are still unsure if that was due to the cause, or if it was from something exploding because of the fire.

Stevenson said the two houses nearest the garage were rental properties owned by the same person, but no one was home at the time of the fire. No one was injured and the Galesburg Fire Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
