Tradition Stands For 123rd Annual Labor Day Parade

labor day 2014Galesburg will celebrate its 123rd year of the Labor Day Parade this upcoming Monday.

Secretary/ Treasurer of the Galesburg Trades and Labor Assembly, Judy Johnson tells WGIL, she is expecting the usual turn out of more than 600 people.

“Expected attendance that we are hoping for is about 600 to 700 visitors on the streets this year,” says Johnson. “It’s been growing quite a bit, and I am hoping the rain holds off and doesn’t dampen the parade. Rain or shine, we will continue the parade and hope for a good turnout.”

Johnson says they are going to stick to tradition, but some entries will add new elements and surprises to this year’s parade.

“A couple of people have told me what they are going to have in the parade, that I think is really going to excite the public when they see it.”

Galesburg, Knoxville, and ROWVA High School bands will perform in part of the parade.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Chambers and Main Street ending at the Knox County Courthouse.
