Senses Will Be Heightened During Dinner In The Dark

Dinner in the Dark Place Setting_1855This Thursday the Stone Hayes Center for Independent living will be sponsoring a Dinner in the Dark Fundraiser to continue helping those in the community with disabilities.Stone-Hayes Center for Independent Living Board Member CC Wilcox along with John Hunigan tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL, the Stone Hayes Center has done multiple events, but nothing like this.

“[I’ve] heard about this in larger cities, there’s places where you go and you actually go to a restaurant and it’s completely pitch black,” says Wilcox. “You go in and you experience and you eat dinner just for some sort of unique experience. It heightens your sense of everything but your sense of sight, of course. So we thought it would be a unique experience to do something like this.”

Instead of having the room dimmed to complete darkness, each person in attendance will receive a blindfold to cover their sight with.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., the formal dinner will range from three to four courses beginning at 6:30 p.m., with music and a silent auction to follow at Soangetaha Country Club.

Hunigan says tickets are still available for purchase at Stoney Hayes for the event.

He hopes people will want to enjoy heightening their senses for something unique in Galesburg.
