Benefit to Aid Child in Need Scheduled for Friday

Benton DavisA benefit in honor of an area child in need will be held this Friday night at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Galesburg. 3-year-old Benton Davis was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia last May and has been fighting ever since.

He is continuing to be treated for his illness through St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals in Peoria and in Memphis, Tennessee.

Event volunteer Jay Redfern tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that this Friday’s benefit will help raise money for the family and St. Jude.

“The reason we are having the benefit is to not only give back to St. Jude, but it is to give back to the family who obviously had to take time off of work and has travel expenses, as well as a lot of other things,” says Redfern.

Coordinator Alicia Condreay says that a number of events have been planned for the benefit.

“We have a silent auction from six to eight-thirty,” says Condreay. “The band–The Lewis Brothers, a live auction with our auctioneer Jeff Hannam starts at 8:30. We have several items for sale.”

Condreay says one of those items is a book for Benton with photos and a note from the donor.

Friday’s event begins at 6 p.m. Those who can’t attend but wish to donate can contact either Redfern or Condreay for more information.
