Police Confirm Couple Dead in Dietrich Avenue Shooting

Dietrich shootingGalesburg Police have confirmed that a husband and wife are dead as a result of a shooting near 164 Dietrich Avenue.

Police responded at 3:04 p.m. this afternoon to find 51-year-old Jeffery R. Phillips and 51-year-old Jane E. Phillips deceased.

According to Captain Rodney Riggs, Jane Phillips was found deceased near the treeline of a nearby field inside of a 2012 Gray Ford vehicle. Jeffery Phillips was found dead near 164 Dietrich. Riggs indicated that a pistol was found near the roadway as well.

Authorities have closed off Dietrich street and crime scene tape has been put up near a ditch in front of 164 Dietrich.
Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas was called to assist at the scene as well.

District 205 Director of Finance Jennifer Bloyd-Hamm said that Steele Elementary School was put on a lockdown, but police have allowed them to release students.

Bloyd-Hamm said students were put on buses, but not allowed to walk home East of the school, so parents were called to come pick up the children.

GPD, Galesburg Fire Department, Illinois Crime Scene Investigators and Illinois Secretary of State Police were all on scene.
Authorities have yet to label either of the deaths. Investigation is on-going at this time.
