Galesburg Police Respond to Report of Shots Fired

galesburgpolicelogoGalesburg Police responded yesterday to reports of shots fired on the 100 block of South Dietrich Avenue.Authorities closed off Dietrich and crime scene tape was put up near a ditch in front of 164 Dietrich.

Various agencies were seen rummaging through a nearby field and Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas was called to assist at the scene as well.

District 205 Director of Finance Jennifer Bloyd-Hamm said that Steele Elementary School was put on a lockdown, but police have allowed them to release students. Bloyd-Hamm said students were put on buses, but not allowed to walk home East of the school, so parents were called to come pick up the children.

GPD, Galesburg Fire Department, Illinois Crime Scene Investigators and Secretary of State Police were all on scene.
