Services to Remain Despite American Red Cross Building Sale

American Red Cross logoThe American Red Cross will be closing their Galesburg location at 143 E. Main Street, however, availability of local services are not expected to change. That’s according to Red Cross Regional Communications Director Trish Burnett, who says the location is being sold because it has been underutilized over the past two years.

Burnett tells WGIL, that the organization has local volunteers who can continue to provide nearly all of the services outside of an office.

“Really buildings are just empty buildings anymore. Our work is out in the community,” says Burnett. “To be able to funnel more money out into the community and the services that we offer, and less money up-keeping under-utilized buildings. We are just moving away from structures and really just more concentrating on the services that need to be provided.”

Burnett says that the one employee who worked out of the Galesburg office will now work out of a home office.

Frequent blood drives that the organization hosts will continue as well. Burnett says that the Red Cross will work with local partners to continue drives on a regular basis.

The Red Cross continues to hold buildings in Moline and Peoria.
