Police Arrest 15 During Holiday Campaigns

galesburgpolicelogoThe Galesburg Police Department recently released results that stemmed from the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click it or Ticket” campaigns.

GPD increased patrols between August 24th and September 7th. According to press release, the department made 15 arrests—six of which took drunk drivers off the road. Through 15 saturation patrols, 86 citations were reportedly given as well.

The Galesburg Police force has worked through the national campaigns during multiple stints this year, which included time around the Independence Day Holiday.

Lieutenant Russ Idle says in the release, that “if we saved one life, the campaign was worthwhile.”

Idle says the department “really pushed the message about designating a sober driver this year,’ and that “if everyone planned ahead, there would be a lot fewer casualties.”

The national campaign is part of a partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
