Duck Races Raise $35,000 for GPSF

RubberDucksThe 20th Annual Rubber Duck Race took place yesterday at Lake Storey.

The Galesburg Public Schools Foundation is the host of that event as well as the fundraising efforts that lead up to it.

According to GPSF Administrator Patti Bibo, this year the organization raised over $35,000–money which will be given to students in District 205.

Every year at the race, multiple prizes are given out as well. A few of this years top winners include Bernadine Fleisher of Galesburg who won $2,000 and Denise Foote who won $1,000. 24 others were awarded prizes as well.

The Galesburg High School Parent Teacher Organization led the way with most ducks sold at 851, followed by the Gale Elementary School PTO who sold 742.

The Great Cardboard Boat Regatta took place yesterday as well. According to a press release sent by Galesburg Parks and Recreation Supervisor Elizabeth Varner, there were 11 entries with participants from Illinois, Iowa, and Ohio.

A few winners from that event included the Gang Green 5 boat from New Richmond, Ohio who won the open division with paddles or oars, the “Little Packer” boat from Hampton, Illinois who won the youth division and the Diamond boat out of Bettendorf, Iowa who won in the instant boats division.
