Police Respond to Two Weekend Thefts

galesburgpolicelogoGalesburg Police officers arrested a man Saturday for retail theft at the Wal-Mart on Knox Square Drive.

19-year-old Syris Whiting has been accused of stealing a Casio brand watch worth more than $700. Police responded to the location at approximately 9:22 p.m. Saturday night.

A witness indicated that she saw Whiting push a cart throughout the store and attempt to exit without stopping at a register to check out.

Upon apprehension, Whitting was found with the watch, which was reportedly not tagged, and did not have packaging. According to police reports, the man admitted to police that he had attempted to take the watch from the store that evening.

Whiting is being held in the Knox County Jail. He is currently awaiting a court date.

In an unrelated incident, GPD also responded on Saturday to a report of a bicycle theft on the 400 block of Olive Street.

According to the victim, the bicycle stolen is valued at $3,500. Police have named no suspects in the case.
