Tea Party Leader Announces Campaign for Congress

Patrick HarlanAt a meeting of the Galesburg Tea Party yesterday, party leader Patrick Harlan announced he will run for a seat in the 17th Congressional District against Democratic Congresswoman Cheri Bustos.

Harlan is a 35-year-old truck driver from Galesburg, who says he has no previous political experience, and that he is “not a politician.” Harlan says he will run because of the passion for his country, family, and people.

The head of the local Tea Party will run as a Republican, backing Tea Party ideals. Harlan tells WGIL, that he will now work to garner support.

“I have gotten help so far from the Rock Island Party Republicans and they are going to meet with me next week,” says Harlan. I have found help from citizens of Rock Island. I also have help from other Tea Party groups within the area, and the Right to Life also would back me. My plans moving forward, is anybody who can get me into a church or anywhere that can get me into a function where I can speak about Conservative values. That is where I want to go to.”

Knox County GOP Chairman Wayne Saline was also in attendance yesterday. Saline announced to the crowd that he “might” make a run for Senator Darin LaHood’s vacant seat. Saline says he expects the 37th Senate District to have the best possible candidate at the end of the day and that he has not made a decision at this point.
