District 205 Works to Create Budget Deficit Reduction Committee

DIST205BOE2015At last night’s District 205 School Board Meeting, the school board approved a budget for Fiscal Year 2016.

While District 205 faces a roughly $2.6 Million operation deficit, the board is working to create a committee that will focus on reducing the budget deficit.

Superintendent Ralph Grimm told WGIL that the board was expected to approve some of the committee members in a closed session, but they are working on gathering historical financial data before implementing the committee.

“Equally important is the collection of historical data, financial enrollment, employment,” says Grimm. “I think this is information that is going to be instructive for the committee to review and we just need to have a little bit more time to put that together.”

Grimm said they have about two-thirds of the committee in place, but because they are looking for a diverse group, they are still seeking additional members.

The board decided to table the approval of the committee until a special meeting on September 28th.

Grimm said they are still on-track for the timeline, which includes a full recommendation by the February 2016 meeting.

Also at last night’s meeting, the board approved a bid for the flooring at Silas Willard, as well as signage and a dedication plaque for the school.

Finance Director Jennifer Bloyd-Hamm said the new design for the signage will end up saving the district roughly $48,000 from what they budgeted for.
