Fall Clean-Up Days Sweeps Streets This Week

Galesburg-city-signThe City of Galesburg is hosting the second “Clean-Up Days” of the year this week.

The week is meant for large refuse items to make their way to the curb at no additional cost based on quantity.

City Planner Julie Main, says the city does not accept some items like yard waste as a part of the days, however, regular yard waste pick-up is in effect.

Main tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that other items like liquid paint and propane tanks are off limits as well.

“We have a paint recycling [program] for your oil based latex paints–we have an opportunity for you to get rid of those,” says Main. “Grill-sized propane tanks, they don’t take those at the curb, but I have a phone number if any wants it to call so you can get rid of that here in town. Large amounts of concrete chunks, bricks–I remember one time someone put out a very nice storage shed. You have to remember that it has to fit in the truck.”

City Administration has also asked that doors be removed from refrigerators and freezers being discarded. Main says that trash removal crews will come by on each homeowners specific trash day. Clean-Up Days will continue through this Friday.
