Annual Doggie Jog Celebrates 23 Years Tomorrow

9-28-14 Doggie Jog 3Tails will wag tomorrow at the Knox County Humane Society’s shelter on Windish Drive. The 23rd Annual Doggie Jog is taking place again this year to raise money for the organization.

Shelter Director Erin Buckmaster says the event is their biggest fundraiser of the year. Buckmaster describes the day as “having a wedding for 100 dogs.”

She tells Galesburg Live on WGIL, that the event originally started as an event to get the organization going.

“We’ve had our animal shelter for 20 years,” says Buckmaster. “We started a doggie jog a few years before that and that helped us get into being able to do the repairs and stuff on the building that were needed. The Knox County Humane Society has been around since 1950, so it’s been well established and a long running rescue. We’re really proud of our facility and the doggie jog has helped make it what it is today.”

Buckmaster says there will be treats for dogs and treats for people. Various contests and a silent auction will yield prizes at the “rain or shine” event.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the “jog”, which Buckmaster says is a non-competitive walk, begins at 9.
