Galesburg Silver Streaks Football vs. Moline Maroons

SpotLight-GHS-Sports-FootBaThe GHS Silver Streaks beat the Moline Maroons 21-14 for Galesburg’s Homecoming game that took two day to complete. Last night around 8:30 with the game tied at 7 with 7:36 left in the half, there was a lightning delay that ultimately resulted in the postponement of the game until 1pm today(9/19). After holding the tie through to halftime Galesburg pulled ahead early in the 3rd quarter to lead 14-7 only to have Moline catch up shortly after and tie it once again at 14. Galesburg then got a 3rd and final touchdown in the 4th quarter bringing their lead to 21-14. However, with 5 minutes left in the game, Moline had plenty of time to tie it up and possibly send the game into overtime. That thought was cut short when Fernando Diaz caught the game ending interception with just 3:26 left to play. Galesburg held onto the ball for the final 3 and a half minutes and got their first win at home for the season. This brings them to 2-2 for the season and 1-0 in the conference. Moline is now 1-3 for the season and 0-1 in the conference. Galesburg will be playing again next Friday against United Township with a pre-game time set for 7:06 and kick off scheduled to go about 7:30.
