Don MoffittState Representative Don Moffitt announced at his Annual Family Picnic that he is not seeking re-election for 2016.Congressman Darin LaHood spoke at the event, saying the three words he would use to describe Moffitt are hard working, integrity, and reliability.

State Representative Norine Hammond tells WGIL that she will miss his humor and expertise.

“Don has always been a go-to person and a great resource for issues as they relate to central and down-state Illinois,” says Hammond. “We worked together on a lot of legislation and I’m going to miss his expertise and his sense of humor.”

Moffitt said it was a tough decision, but he wanted to spend more time with his family, though he plans to stay involved in state public policy issues and community events.

Galesburg Mayor John Pritchard says he will certainly be remembered for his efforts in capital improvements around Galesburg.

“I think he’ll be long remembered for his leadership in gaining us the funding from the last capital bill that provided resources to get the two overpasses and hopefully the underpass projects for Galesburg,” says Pritchard.

Moffitt says he will continue to work for the district in the last 16 months of his term.
