Ruetz NancyNancy L Ruetz, 86, Galesburg, IL died peacefully at 11:00 p.m., September 19, 2015, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, IL.

She was born June 1, 1929, in Moline Illinois, the daughter of Paul Wayne and Ruby Rich, and was raised by Ruby and Clarence (“Peanuts”) Wilson. She married August (“Gus”) Ruetz in 1950 in Joliet, Illinois, who preceded her in death in 2004.

Nancy is survived by one brother, Tom (Judy) Wilson of Galesburg, Illinois; three sons, David (Becky) Ruetz of Galesburg, Illinois, Terry (Deb) Ruetz of Monmouth, Illinois and Ted (Lisa) Ruetz of Knoxville, Illinois; one daughter, Kathryn Ruetz (Carolyn Hill) of St. Petersburg, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.  She is predeceased by two grandchildren.

After graduating from Silver Cross Hospital Nursing School in Joliet Illinois, she worked as Director of Nursing for the Knox County Nursing Home, as a nurse at St. Mary’s and Cottage Hospitals in Galesburg, and for Dr. Hickerson in Knoxville for more than 25 years.  After retiring, Nancy worked with the American Red Cross Disaster Services volunteering for disaster assistance around the country, concluding at the age of 72 by traveling to Ground Zero two days following the 9/11 tragedy. She was a member of the Knoxville Women’s Club and the American Legion Auxiliary and loved being with family and friends, playing dominos and the Chicago Cubs.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m., September 23, 2015, at the Knoxville Cemetery. There will be a reception at the Knoxville American Legion following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to the American Red Cross.  Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory Knoxville is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences can be made at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
