County Website, Finances Among Board Meeting Discussions

Last night at the Knox County Board meeting, board members got their first glimpse at a project the county administration has working on for some time.

County Clerk Scott Erickson unveiled the updated county website, something he says is “completely revamped and modernized.”

Erickson essentially told board members that the updates allow for information to be centralized.

“All the departments are listed,” said Erickson. “You can click on a department name and it will come up with their specific information and their office. We have these landing pages and the pages for each of the departments are standardized for what they are looking for now in new modern websites for the transparency concerns. They are going to basically have a snapshot of what information the public can get.”

Erickson says social media elements are expected to be added in the near future as well.

Board members also discussed purchases. Bids were accepted to purchase a $12,000 truck tarp system and a $700,000 compactor for the county landfill.

A finance plan with interest on the compactor purchase will cost the county approximately $27,000 additionally over four years.

Though some board members have called for a halt on larger expenses, Landfill Administrator Jerry Reynolds explained that the purchases were needed to continue bringing in revenue.

Meanwhile, the board voted down purchasing a new work vehicle for the Highway Engineer. Budgetary constraints were given as reasoning.
