Health Officials in Lake County Encourage Flu Shots

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — The health department in Lake County is urging residents to get their annual flu shots.

The department announced Friday it is offering the flu vaccine by appointment at its Immunizations Clinic on Dodge Avenue in Waukegan.

Last year, the flu virus was linked to six deaths and 49 intensive care unit admissions in Lake County.

Health Department Executive Director Tony Beltran says influenza is highly contagious and can take a severe toll on health.

Flu vaccine is available through a needle or a nasal spray. Anyone 6 months of age or older can receive the shot. The nasal spray vaccine is for healthy people ages 2 to 49 years who are not pregnant.
