Feds: Hacker and Trucking Executive Extorted Chicago Company

CHICAGO (AP) — Federal authorities say a California trucking company president plotted with a Serbian hacker to extort $40,000 from a Chicago-area software company.

Prosecutors say the 20-year-old hacker gained access to the unidentified company’s servers last May and threatened to leak sensitive information unless money was deposited in a California bank account.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago says the president of Love Freightways, 32-year-old Nemanja Lovre, of Seal Beach, California, then withdrew money from the account and deposited it in his own account.

Lovre was arrested Wednesday in California and faces federal extortion charges in Chicago.

The hacker was arrested by Serbian authorities and is expected to face charges there.

It was not immediately clear if Lovre already had an attorney who could comment on their behalf.
