Cubs Beat Brewers 3-1, Await Fate on Hosting NL Wild Card

Chicago CubsMILWAUKEE (AP) — The Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 on Sunday for their eighth straight win, but still needed Pittsburgh to lose in order to host the Pirates in the NL wild-card game.

Pittsburgh, which played Cincinnati, held a one-game lead over the Cubs in the wild-card standings. If the teams finish with identical records, the Cubs would hold the tiebreaker and host the one-game playoff on Wednesday at Wrigley Field.

Regardless of where that game is played, Chicago heads into its first postseason appearance since 2008 brimming with confidence. The Cubs ended the regular season with a three-game sweep in Milwaukee.

Anthony Rizzo had a two-run single with the bases loaded in the first to reach a career-high 101 RBIs on the season. Starter Dan Haren (11-9) allowed three hits and a walk in six innings.

The rebuilding Brewers finished with 94 losses, 14 more than 2014.
