Pro-Life Group Draws A Crowd at Sunday Rally

right to life 2Protesters with signs displaying anti-abortion and pro-life messages could be seen throughout parts of Galesburg yesterday.

A large gathering of citizens encompassed the city’s public square yesterday afternoon for what is called a “life chain.”

Knox County Right to Life Spokesmen Dick and Pat Conklin said the life chain is annual event held across the U.S. by pro-life supporters.

Honks from cars in support and some opposition from those who disagreed with the message could be seen.

Dick Conklin told WGIL, that the event is held to garner attention.

“The point is to be a visible witness to the community, that there is a sizable number of people in the community that want to witness against abortion,” says Conklin. “We want to be a visible sign to the press, and to any elected officials. It’s also maybe to peak the conscience of people who drive by. Some of these people have been doing this for 20-some years.”Right to Life 1

The Conklin’s estimated that up to 300 individuals joined in around town yesterday. Protesters traveled from Broad to Losey and Fremont and then to Henderson street to display the message.
