Miller, DorothyDorothy E. Miller, 91, of Galesburg, passed away at 8:17 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at home.

She was born November 5, 1923, in Kewanee, the daughter of Felix A. and Mabel (Celander) Kirby. She married B. Jack Miller on August 17, 1947 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1994.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane (and Mike) Sands of Converse, Texas and Nancy McGill of Galesburg; a sister, Ruthann (and Eugene) Duke of Lake City, Florida; a sister-in-law, Ann Kirby of Forest Hills, New York; a brother-in-law, Thomas Rohwer of Austin, Texas; a step grandson, Hunter Sands; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death her parents; a brother, William “Bill” Kirby; and two sisters, Viola Haley and Marjorie Rohwer.

Dorothy was valedictorian of the great class of 1941 at Kewanee High School and attended Western Illinois University. She worked at Kewanee Boiler Corporation for 10 years, was a stay at home mom for 18 years, and then was secretary at Tucker-Swanson Realtors for 20 years, retiring in 1990.

A longtime member of First Baptist Church, she sang in the choir, was church clerk, and an officer in the American Baptist Women. She also volunteered at the Cottage Hospital Gift Shop for many years and enjoyed being a member of The Study Club of Galesburg.

Her special joys were being with family and friends, her coffee group, reading, traveling, walking, especially in earlier years with her “walking partners”, and her beloved cat, Buddy.

Visitation will be noon to 1:45 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.   Rev.
