Route 66 Museum to Hold Auction in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Good news for anyone who ever wanted to get their kicks on Route 66.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that three auctions — two on-site and one online — are scheduled for the collection that William “Bill” Shea put together and displayed at Shea’s Gas Station and Museum in Springfield.

Shea died at the age of 91 in December 2013 and in a statement on the museum’s Facebook page his family said it could not “run or maintain” the museum that Shea opened 20 years ago.

Collectors will be able to bid on such items as vintage gas pumps and a 1952 Airstream Cruiser.

The first on-site auction will be held Oct. 10. Another on-site auction and an online auction will be held in November.
