Sentencing Set for Illinois Trooper in Roadside Strip Search

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — An Illinois state trooper is set to be sentenced in connection with a roadside strip search in East St. Louis that was captured on his patrol car’s dashboard camera.

The St. Clair County Circuit Clerk says 34-year-old Corey Alberson of Swansea is to be sentenced Tuesday afternoon. He was convicted last month of misdemeanor aggravated assault but not a more serious felony aggravated battery charge. He faces up to one year in jail.

Authorities say Alberson pulled down a motorist’s pants and examined the man’s buttocks and genitals with a flashlight during the April 2014 traffic stop. Alberson and another trooper testified that they stopped the man based on an informant’s tip about a possible drug delivery. No drugs were found.
