Stevenson Family Exhibit on Hold Due to Illinois Budget Feud

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A planned exhibit on former Gov. Adlai Stevenson and his political dynasty family is on hold, due partially to Illinois’ budget stalemate.

The Springfield bureau of Lee Enterprises reports the display had been planned for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

Spokesman Chris Wills said it’s been delayed due to the budget crisis and uncertainty about the museum’s relationship with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democrats who run the Legislature have been fighting over a state budget and a plan to split the museum from the agency.

Stevenson served as governor from 1949 to 1953 and later was U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

The exhibit was to be based on memorabilia donated by his son, former U. S. Sen. Adlai Stevenson III.
