Saline to Announce Run for 74th District on Sunday

WGILNewsIcon200pxKnox County Republican Party Chairman Wayne Saline says he will make a run for the 74th District seat that’s being vacated by longtime State Representative Don Moffitt.

Moffitt announced in September that he would not seek re-election later this year, after serving 12 terms over 23 years in office.

Saline says filling those shoes, “will be a huge challenge,” but he would like to keep the position in Knox County.

The area GOP leader tells WGIL that he decided he was all in because of the support he’s received so far.

“Other people had heard that I was considering it, and I had a couple of people call me and tell me that they would support me–that it was a good move for me, and that I should make a run at this,” says Saline. “After the number of people called in support of me doing this, I decided to make my announcement and move forward.”

Saline says he plans to make his formal announcement outside of the Knox County Courthouse this Sunday at 10 a.m.

The Rio man is a farmer by trade. Prior to heading the county’s Republican party, he served on the county board from 2000 until 2011.

Saline has said in past interviews that he plans to run on a platform of creating jobs through fiscal responsibility.

He now enters the race alongside Dan Swanson, Superintendent of the Henry County Veterans Assistance Commission, who announced that he would run last month.
