E. Rebecca “Becky” Simpson, age 89, of Knoxville, Illinois died on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.
She was born on October 15, 1925 in Jerome, Idaho the daughter of Ross and Nellie Young Bruner. She married C. Willard Simpson on September 2, 1948 in Knoxville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1985.
Surviving are two daughters: Brenda S. (Erwin) Koster of Sarasota, Florida and Jean B. (Matt Squire) Simpson of Ingleside, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Karen Simpson of Galesburg, Illinois; four grandchildren: Benjamin A. (Tish) Simpson of Knoxville, Illinois, Dennis E. (Angela) Simpson of Wataga, Travis W. Simpson of Galesburg, Illinois, Elizabeth A. Simpson of Champaign, Illinois; five great grandchildren: Andrew Roberson, Kyle J. Simpson, Zachary Farrar, Blake Shultz and Brian Shultz. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons: Donald E. and Brian J., three brothers and five sisters.
She attended and graduated from the Cottage Nursing Program in Galesburg, Illinois. She was a Registered Nurse for Cottage Hospital and then the Head Nurse for the former P.E.O. Home in Knoxville, Illinois. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Knox County Home Extension, and Cottage Nursing Alumni and hospital volunteer. She was a great baker and a wonderful caregiver, she enjoyed playing Pinochle. She also enjoyed her family, friends, having fun and laughing.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory, Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Michel D. Clark officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. In-lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or to the Knox County Nursing Home. Interment will be in the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois.
