Weaver Assumes 37th Senate Seat

Chuck Weaver Swear inPeorian Chuck Weaver was officially sworn in as State Senator of the 37th District this morning.

Officiant and Peoria County Judge Stephen Kouri called the ceremony a “historic occasion.”

Weaver is succeeding incoming Congressman Darin LaHood who won election in the 18th Congressional District last month.

Weaver has spent the last five months visiting district counties outside of Peoria.

Addressing family and friends inside the Peoria County Courthouse this morning, the former Peoria Councilman said he plans to focus on jobs, education, and resolving the budget impasse.

Weaver says specifically for communities like Galesburg and counties like Knox, that means growing business.

“In these Ag communities specifically, I’ll tell you, so much of it is about regulation, and then also about the importance of a strong market and a global market, that they can get their products to market ” says Weaver. “I’m not going to go into detail, but there’s really three things I focus on for economic development. You have got to have access to capital, got to have access to a workforce, and you have got to have access to a global market. That’s what you have to have to grow business in the State of Illinois right now.”

Weaver is expected to travel to Galesburg alongside LaHood for a media tour on Monday.Chuck Weaver
