Area Haunted House Scares for a Cause

Shadows RealmHalloween season is back in Galesburg, and a local haunted house will be providing a scare in support of charity.

Shadows Realm opens tonight in a new location at 2015 Windish Drive, part of which encompasses the old Hawthorne Center morgue.

The organization previously held the haunted house in a schoolhouse in Gilson, but relocated due to strict fire codes.

Organizers Yolanda Stigner and Sam Burdick both say that all of the proceeds raised this haunting season, will be donated in support of the Gilson Boy Scout Troupe, as well as to various other charities.

Burdick says the organization of Shadow’s Realm takes a lot of work to put together. He tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL, that it all happens because of support from those looking to help.

“This is 100 percent fueled by volunteers,” Burdick says. “If its not for the volunteers, this would have never happened. “We’ve got so much to do and we don’t have a budget to pay anyone, so everybody who is out there helping is a volunteer.”

Shadow’s Realm will run for the next four weekends every Friday and Saturday night from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. On Sunday, November 1st, the group will even hold “Lights on for the Kids”– a scare free event with games and candy.

General admission is $10 or $15 to avoid the lines.
