Chicago State Names Alabama University Official to Top Post

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago State University board of trustees has named an official of the University of North Alabama as the school’s 22nd president.

Chicago State on Thursday named North Alabama vice president of enrollment management Thomas Calhoun to succeed current president Wayne D. Watson, who announced his retirement in January.

In a statement, the university said Calhoun was chosen as a finalist by a 22-member search committee that included faculty, students and alumni.

Calhoun previously served as assistant dean for student academic services at the University of Washington’s College of Engineering.

In a statement, Calhoun said he is honored to be chosen Chicago State president, adding the 4,800-student university is in an excellent position “to take advantage of wonderful opportunities to grow and prosper.”
