Feds Auction More Items Seized From Rita Crundwell

DIXON, Ill. (AP) — The federal government is auctioning items purchased by Dixon’s former comptroller who’s in prison for embezzling $54 million from the town over two decades.

The U.S. Marshals Service announced Thursday that its online auction will be Oct. 20 to Nov. 3, and will include horse-show accessories and apparel seized from Rita Crundwell.

The 62-year-old Crundwell was one of the nation’s leading quarter-horse breeders. It was a sideline she financed with money stolen from the city.

She was sentenced to 19 years in federal prison in 2013. U.S. Marshals have returned $9.5 million to the city.

Items in the auction include a Childeric English saddle valued at $4,000; designer bags, jackets and cowboy hats; and a T-shirt signed by Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Terry Bradshaw.
