Bridge Construction to Halt Chicago-St. Louis Amtrak Trains

CHICAGO (AP) — Amtrak will halt train service between Chicago and St. Louis from Oct. 17-31 to allow workers to rebuild and expand six bridges along Illinois’ high-speed rail route. The work was scheduled for later in the month to avoid disrupting travel during Major League Baseball’s National League Division Series games in Chicago and St. Louis.

Chartered buses will replace Amtrak’s Lincoln Service trains during the stoppage.

The Texas Eagle service will detour between Chicago and St. Louis on a route through eastern Illinois without any scheduled stops.

Amtrak says a complete halt to train service will allow the bridge work to be finished sooner.
