McHenry Teachers, District Reach Tentative Agreement

MCHENRY, Ill. (AP) — A teachers union in the northern Illinois community of McHenry has reached a tentative agreement with the school district that could end a strike that began Oct. 1.

School district and union officials said Saturday they had reached an agreement overnight.

Union spokeswoman Heidie Dunn says the 150-member McHenry Community High School Educators Association plans to hold a vote on the deal Monday. Students could be back in school Tuesday if teachers vote to ratify the proposal.

School board President Steve Bellmore says he appreciates the long hours put in by negotiators on both sides.

Details of the contract will be discussed publicly if teachers vote to ratify. The proposal would next go to the school board for a vote. The school district’s website says homecoming activities are being rescheduled.
