Bustos Continues Highway Bill Efforts

Bustos picRecent meetings with committee chairs left Congresswoman Cheri Bustos “very encouraged” about a proposed six-year bill aimed at funding highway projects in Illinois.

Bustos met last Tuesday with chairmen of the Ways and Means and Transportation Infrastructure committees to discuss the legislation.

Last week, Bustos told WGIL she felt good about the meeting with Republican Paul Ryan, who is chairman of the Ways and Means Committee that could help fund the bill.

“I walked away very encouraged, knowing that on the Republican side that they are willing to look at having a highway bill move along the legislative process,” says Bustos. “I support a piece of legislation that would call for a six-year highway bill, but the encouraging news is that it looks like we are going to be meeting within the next couple of weeks to do what’s called a mark up–to do the things needed to start creating a highway bill.”

Additional meetings will be held in the coming weeks to start the process of drafting the bill.

Bustos visited the Galesburg WestRock plant to discuss the bill and rally support last week.
