LaHood Passes Torch to Weaver

Weaver and LaHoodThe newly elected Congressman Darin LaHood is touring the area with newly sworn-in State Senator Chuck Weaver.

On Thursday, Weaver officially took on LaHood’s former role as Senator of the 37th District in a move that LaHood hopes to make as smooth as possible.

LaHood tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that Weaver’s background will make him a strong leader.

“Chuck has done a very good job at the City Council level and his benevolent activities in the Peoria area and his background as a businessman–you create those opportunities by doing a good job at the job you’re doing and then when something opens up, you’re in the right place at the right time,” says LaHood. “I think that’s where Chuck fell into this, and had a lot of support early on in that and taking over for me, I’m very happy to have Chuck taking my seat. I think it will be a seamless transition.”

Weaver says he was happy serving on the Peoria City Council, but is looking forward to serving as Senator.

“You just try to be the best person you can be, and when opportunities come up where you think you can make a difference, if you are right for them then step into them,” says Weaver.

Weaver will visit different counties throughout the district in the coming weeks.
