Mets take opener over the Cubs

Chicago CubsMatt Harvey limited the Cubs to four hits over 7 2-3 innings in the Mets’ 4-2 win to open the National League Championship Series.

Daniel Murphy and Travis d’Arnaud homered off Chicago starter Jon Lester and Curtis Granderson drove in the other two runs for New York.

Harvey allowed two runs and struck out nine, leaving after Kyle Schwarber’s 459-foot home run.

Murphy put the Mets ahead in the first, matching a team record by homering in his third straight postseason game.

Major league wins leader Jake Arrieta  starts for the Cubs on Sunday night in Game 2 against Mets rookie Noah Syndergaard.

Kansas City took advantage of a fielding miscue to get to a dominating David Price and went on to beat Toronto 6-3 in Game 2 of the ALCS. The defending champ Royals have a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Price was cruising along on a one hitter after retiring 18 in a row and had a 3-0 lead heading into the seventh inning. But second baseman Ryan Goins and right fielder Jose Bautista allowed a lead-off, shallow fly ball from Ben Zobrist to drop between them and the Royals went on to a five-run inning to take control.

Eric Hosmer, Kendry Morales, Mike Moustakas and Alex Gordon each drove in a run before Price was pulled. Alex Rios drove in one more run before the inning was over.

Game 3 of the series is set for Monday in Toronto.
