Jared, Lee Ernest

Ernest Lee Jared, 81 of Abingdon, passed away at 2:40 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center of Galesburg.

He was born June 7, 1934 at Swan Creek, Illinois, the son of Israel and Mary Bridgewater Jared.  He married Jeanette Inman.  He later married Ruth Kern.

Lee is survived by his wife, Ruth Jared.  He is also survived by three daughters, Teena (Gary) Hansen of Kentucky, Terri (and Mike) Cole of Stronghurst and Tracey Jared; two stepchildren, Lora (and Joe) Hills of Springfield, Missouri and Andrew (and Kristy) Austin of Abingdon; 16 Grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

He was in the Army and served his country from 1955 to 1957.

Lee was a classic country singer and guitar player and had his own band for more than twenty-five years called the Midnight Ramblers.  He was a die-hard Cubs fan.  He retired from the Abingdon Pottery after 38 years and later drove the railroad personnel to and from trains.

Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Abingdon Cemetery.  Rev. Danny Hunt will officiate. A celebration of Lee’s life will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
