Chicago moving official Christmas tree to Millennium Park

CHICAGO (AP) — The city of Chicago’s official Christmas tree is moving to Millennium Park after decades at Daley Plaza.

The city said Tuesday that the tree will be unveiled at a lighting ceremony Nov. 24 in Millennium Park near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Washington Street. The tree has been at Daley Plaza nearly 50 years — every year since 1966 — except for one exception. That’s 1982 when the tree was at State Street and Wacker Drive.

Millennium Park will be home to other holiday events this season, including visits with Santa Claus, caroling and ice skating.

The city is accepting nominations until Monday for trees from the Chicago area to be chosen as the city’s official Christmas tree. The winning Christmas tree will be announced early next month.
