Lockdown lifted after police catch Monmouth-Roseville school threat suspect

WGIL Square Logo 800px cmp(UPDATED 3:16 p.m.) The Monmouth-Roseville School district lifted their “soft lockdown” status after police apprehended a juvenile around 2 p.m. today in connection with unspecified threats to the Monmouth-Roseville High School.

Monmouth Deputy Chief Joe Switzer says the juvenile in custody was not a student in the Monmouth-Roseville school district.

Monmouth police were notified by high school administration after high school students told a teacher about possible threats made against the school

Superintendent Ed Fletcher tells WGIL the students did the exact right thing in this situation.

“We encourage all the students, whether you don’t think it’s serious or think it’s very serious, you need to let an adult know so we can look into,” Fletcher says, “and we appreciate the students doing that in this case.”

Leading up to the arrest, Fletcher said the soft lockdown was a safety precaution and students were allowed to freely travel throughout their respective schools

“We are still in school, but each of our schools is placed on a soft lockdown,” Fletcher said prior to the suspect’s apprehension. “They’re free to move within their buildings but no one is allowed to leave the buildings. But they can go to the restroom and do things withing the buildings, but not go outside.”

With the lockdown lifted, Fletcher says regular after-school activities, including athletics, will resume as normal.
