Sassy Chicago diner auctions off memorabilia

CHICAGO (AP) — A quirky Chicago diner known for its sassy attitude and comically rude wait staff has held an auction of its memorabilia as it prepares to move.

The Chicago Tribune reports the auction of neon signs, statues and oddities from Ed Debevic’s drew former patrons and nostalgia lovers.

The restaurant, which opened in 1984, is relocating and is temporarily closed. It’s known for its slogan: “Eat and get out!”

Chicago resident Jeff Richey says he has many fond memories of Ed Debevic’s and was hoping to bid on something with the restaurant’s name on it.

Jeff Valentine of suburban Chicago bought a sign for $20. It says: “If you can find a better diner … EAT THERE.”
