Community forum to discuss area goals next week

Ken Springer 1Next week, area residents will have the chance to formally voice their opinions for economic development.

The Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development will host a community forum at Carl Sandburg College on Wednesday.

President Ken Springer says the Partnership is currently ahead of a strategic planning process to choose a direction for the young organization.

Springer tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL, that citizens are being asked to provide fairly broad views.

“We’re really looking for input at a 20,000 foot view,” says Springer. “Is it the expectation of the community that we are going to travel abroad and bring companies in from overseas? Is the focus going to be working with local companies, helping entrepreneurs? These kinds of operational priorities are really what we are looking for.”

Springer says the meeting should really lay out some of those options.

“We’ll speak very frankly, we’ll say here is what we could be doing, here is what it is going to take to do each of these different types of strategies. Which one does the community really want us to engage with?”

Wednesday’s meeting takes place in the Building B lobby, starting at 6:30 p.m.
