Galesburg gives its Heart and Soul to strategic plan

Galesburg Community FoundationAfter the Galesburg City Council voted to partner with the Orton Family Foundation last month, the Community Heart and Soul project is in what Galesburg Community Foundation Executive Director Josh Gibb calls “pre work.”

Gibb tells WGIL the $50,000 strategic plan to bolster the community through person-to-person connections has been holding focus group meetings.

“The focus groups are trying to establish a foundation,” Gibb says, “of what our community cares about. I’ve been calling it a sort of a ‘deep scratch’ to what the Heart and Soul process is actually going to be.”

The findings of the focus groups will be released — with input from individual contributors kept confidential — during an upcoming public meeting.

“It’ll be a community event that we’re going to host at the Orpheum Theatre,” Gibb says. “It’ll be in the evening and as the begins to  further planned out there’s going to be lots of opportunities for people to learn about that and hopefully attend to hear what we’re doing within the focus groups.”

The November 18th event is set for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre.
